Asbestos in your boiler? find out now

The Control of Asbestos Regulations came into force in Great Britain in 2006. These regulations prohibit the importation, supply and use of all forms of asbestos. Since then Gas Safe has published information and guidance for engineers working on boilers containing asbestos.

There are a few boilers still in use that contain asbestos and with these boilers it is not possible to carry out a full strip and clean service because of the health hazards with inhaling this lethal material. It is possible, however, to carry out a smaller service which does not involve cleaning out the heat exchanger on these affected boilers.
If the boiler fails to meet the minimum standards for safety during the emissions test it will have to be condemned immediately. However, if the boiler passes the service it can continue to be used, until such time as it fails when it will then be switched off and a suitable replacement will need to be fitted.

If you are unsure as to whether your boiler contains asbestos, please follow the link below where you will find a list of the affected boilers at the very bottom of the Gas Safe Technical Bulletin.
We strongly advise that should your boiler be included on this list, you start to plan to replace your old boiler as its day are numbered!!

If you have any questions about this issue or about replacing your boiler Heat Tech are happy to help.
